Science

Diagonal Bio’s patented technology1 works with specific buffers that facilitate the identification of genetic markers in any type of genetic material (DNA or RNA), from essentially any organism (human, plant, animal, virus, bacteria, fungi etc).

The patented technology is based on a combination of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) to amplify the specific genetic marker in a sample, in combination with electrochemical sensors to detect the amplified marker.

Diagonal Bio’s analyzer are used together with Diagonal Bio’s specially developed cartridges, containing 6 channels for tests and two for positive and negative controls. The Time-To-Positive (TTP) depends on the specific kit used (each tailored for a specific genetic marker) and the genetic marker’s concentration in a sample.

Using the results from the first external study conducted by Centre of Diagnostics at DTU HealthTech2, the fastest recorded TTP was approximately 8½ minutes with a high concentration of the genetic marker. In contrast, it took approximately 12.5 minutes to detect the genetic marker at a low concentration, near the limit of detection (LOD). Theoretically, this would allow for the analysis of 32 samples within an hour with one instrument, divided into 4 separate analytical runs with 8 samples in each analysis, factoring in 10 minutes for pipetting/sample handling.

Robust with low manufacturing costs

Diagonal Bio’s ground breaking technology platform eliminates expensive optical hardware, primers with fluorescent tags, and other toxic substances often used in PCR-based technologies, which translates into a more sustainable and eco-friendly technology.

Portable analyzer

The technology platform can be housed in a small box weighing the same as a large laptop computer, making it portable and practical for use in laboratories, point of care settings, and in the field.

Each product based on the platform has eight channels to enable amplification and detection of up to eight genetic markers or up to eight samples in parallel. An easy-to-use touchscreen interface provides step-by-step guidance for the operator and displays the results within 10-15 minutes.
